Thanks Audra! I really appreciate that. And I appreciate your feedback on the basic idea. Anything you'd like to see in a writing magazine, well, let me know!
Strange story indeed TJ, it’s hard to deal with change. As I get older, I feel more and more detached sometimes because of rapid changes occurring in all fields, mostly technology. I believe however that good storytelling never dies and at the heart of us all there is always a desire for it. Hold the line
I've been reading and starting to work through Lisa Cron's "Story Genius." In the opening chapters, she makes the same point you are making about story, and goes into the deep why behind the power of story. And of course the real power of a great story is when it's shared person to person. Not scraped from the Internet and refashioned buy AI. And yeah, I think I've long been exhausted by the neverending train of learning new apps and tech devices to make it through a day in mondern life. Computers are great tools, for sure. But there's something to be said for the simplicity of paper, pen, or a typewriter.
I went to the Writer website today remembering how much I used to enjoy reading that magazine. I was bewildered by the content on the website. The livestream soap opera is senseless and distracting. Then I landed on an article on The Hot Sheet that told what had happened to it, which linked to your newsletter. Wow. This is very sad. What happened to all the previously published content? It seems like they could publish past issues or compiled articles in PDF and that would bring in some money. There are some good articles from past issues still accessible., but broken links and dead ends reveal it's been abandoned. They obviously know nothing about web publishing. I hope you and your friends can build upon the Writer's legacy and meet the needs of the new publishing world!
I so hope you can bring her back. "The Writer" was undoubtedly the first writing magazine I ever bought, and my later being a finalist in one of your competitions will always remain in my literary bio!
I only just learned of the fate of The Writer, started Googling around for more information or backstory, and found your Substack. This was kind of my worst fear when I learned Bebop had bought a bunch of magazines unrelated to their core interest. I'm so sorry.
It seems like, if you’re still sitting up straight and tall after all that, you’re winning. Keep your head high!
I love the idea of a modern magazine for writers, and quite interested to hear what you have in mind!

100%
I agree!
It's wild to me that someone bought a magazine about WRITING and went "you know what would appeal to more of this audience? Not having to read."

I enjoyed The Writer Magazine and will miss it. I am glad though to see that you are keeping the spirit alive. Thank you.
So disappointing that all of this happened. I hope you're doing well, TJ!

That’s so sad. I have been wondering were the Writer went. I hope for its return.
